Was the last Group of Seven painting you looked at a fake? Quite possibly, according to Jon S. Dellandrea, author and Chair Emeritus of the Art Canada Institute Board of Directors. In his new book, The Great Canadian Art Fraud Case, Dellandrea delves into the scandalous 1962–64 court case that addressed how, in the late-1950s, forgeries of works by many of this country’s greatest artists began appearing on gallery walls, in auction houses, and in the homes of art collectors and luminaries across Canada. Dellandrea chronicles how he came to accidentally own a box of evidence that detailed this long-forgotten investigation and major legal battle. Now, decades after one of Canada’s greatest art crimes, Dellandrea reveals the importance of this too-little-known story of scandal, intrigue, and mystery to this country’s art world.
