    About

THE ARTIST AND THE AV ISAACS SCENE

This fascinating talk explores, how in 1959, William Kurelek met Toronto art dealer Avrom Isaacs, the man who launched his career. Isaacs—who represented many of the country’s most notable artists, including Greg Curnoe, Tony Urquhart, Michael Snow, and Joyce Wieland—offered Kurelek a job in the gallery’s frame shop and his first solo exhibition. Yet Kurelek, who declared his affinity for the medieval ideal of the artist-as-craftsman, felt himself to be, and was viewed by many, as the art world’s odd man out.
